How We Serve
There are many ways to participate in the life of the parish, whether you are new to church life or have been part of a church community for years. Some ministries happen during worship, while others help create a welcoming and cared-for space for everyone who gathers here.
Altar Servers
Altar servers assist during worship services, helping with the flow and ceremonies of the Eucharist. Children as young as 9 may serve, alongside many adult members of the parish.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild quietly cares for many of the practical details behind worship — preparing the altar before services, caring for the linens and sacred vessels used during communion, and helping restore the church afterward.
Coffee Hour Hosts
After most Sunday services, people gather in the parish hall for coffee, conversation, and refreshments. Volunteers help by bringing simple snacks or treats to share. The goal is less about hosting a formal event and more about creating space for community and connection.
Grounds Care
Volunteers help care for the church property during the warmer months by mowing the lawn and keeping the grounds welcoming and beautiful. The work is simple, shared, and usually takes less than half an hour.
Lectors
Lectors read passages from Scripture during worship services. This ministry helps give voice to the biblical readings that shape the church’s prayer and reflection each week.
Serving the Community
Bellefonte Food Bank
- Each month, we partner with the local food bank to learn which food and personal care items are most urgently needed. Throughout the month, parishioners gather those items, and each week we deliver donations from the church to the food bank to help support our neighbors in need.
Bellefonte Youth Center
- Twice each month, we enjoy preparing and sharing dinner with young people at the Youth Center, serving approximately 15–20 youth each time. We bring a special arts and crafts project, and spend time playing games with the children. the children help us cook and serve our Shrove Tuesday Pancake dinner.
“Feed Them Like Family”
- In addition to cooking meals for the Bellefonte Youth Center, we also prepare meals and deliver them to the local homeless shelter in State College on a monthly basis. We cook and freeze extra food for those in our community who might need meals.
